About Me

Born and bred in Teesside, North East of England but now living in Cheshire in North West England with my gorgeous wife Jan. I have a Masters Degree in Business Administration and hold an Associateship Distinction from the Royal Photographic Society.

My early working life was spent in the RAF as an Air Traffic Controller, but after six years of enjoying myself and playing Golf around the world I left to pursue a career in Retail & Corporate Banking (somehow that doesn't sound right!). After 16 years working for a major UK Bank I left to take up my first post as CEO of a finance based SME before selling the business two years later.

My passion for photography was borne out of a childhood love for aviation. At a young age weekends were spent at Teesside airport (now Durham Tees Valley) with frequent trips to Newcastle, Leeds and occassionally Heathrow. Airshows such as Mildenhall and Finningley were annual pilgrimages. My parents bought me a camera (a Canon) in my early teens which I took everywhere with me, even if looking back the pictures weren't so good the memories are priceless. As I developed as a photographer (and got a job) I bought better and better equipment. I used an EOS3 for years and still have it, occasionally I'll pop a roll of film in to remind me how difficult it all was.

For the last ten or so years Natural History has become another passion. I love the peace and quiet of being away from it all and observing nature. I've met some brilliant photographers such as David Noton and Jari Peltomaki as well as inspirational conservationists such as Rolf Wahl who manages Osprey conservation in France.

My photography has always been with Canon equipment. I own three 1 series bodies (2 1d MK IV's & a 1ds MK111) as well as several L series lenses including the 800mm f/5.6, 400mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/2.8. I love everything associated with photography, the being out there at an ungodly hour, the never ending learning to see and craft an image, the technical workings of the camera/lens to execute the image correctly, the knowledge required to process it through Lightroom and Photoshop and then to print it.

More recently I've joined the social media world (whatever that means) so you can find my Facebook page HERE and my Twitter page by clicking on this button
